cannot explain us. Men can be analysed, women... merely adored.

Sir Robert Chiltern : You think science cannot grapple with the problem of women ?

Mrs Cheveley : Science can never grapple with the irrational.
That is why it has no future before it, in this world.

Sir Robert Chiltern : And women represent the irrational.

Mrs Cheveley : Well-dressed women do.

Sir Robert Chiltern : Qu'est-ce que ces romanciers modernes
psychologues, ceux dont on entend tant parler, disent d'une telle théorie ?

Mrs Cheveley : Ah ! la force des femmes vient de ce qu'elles sont un complet mystère pour
la psychologie. Les hommes peuvent être analysés, les femmes... simplement adorées.

Sir Robert Chiltern : Vous pensez que la science est impuissante face au problème des femmes ?

Mrs Cheveley : La science ne peut rien contre l'irrationnel. C'est
la raison pour laquelle elle n'a aucun avenir devant elle, en ce monde.

Sir Robert Chiltern : Et les femmes représentent l'irrationnel.

Mrs Cheveley : Les femmes bien habillées, oui.
